One of the coolest things about a digital product business is you can quite literally get paid to help people solve problems.
And this might sound obvious, but in order to do so you have to know a few things:
The first thing is the most important part:
You have to know how to actually solve the problem you’re looking to help others with.
The best way to make this work is by choosing a problem you’ve already solved for yourself.
For example, I’ve seen people trying to sell general personal training when they clearly need a personal trainer of their own.
I’m not even saying someone has to be super jacked and ripped in order to get clients like the comment sections of Instagram Reels might suggest…
It’s just not going to work as well as someone who got a clear result and has a specific ideal customer to work with.
The next thing is exactly that:
Instead of doing a generic offer, it’s important to know exactly who you want to serve.
Keeping up with the fitness example, it’s not good enough to just offer fitness advice.
It’s too broad and if you try to speak to everyone, you speak to no one.
Now you don’t have to go too granular and only work with 42 year old nurse practitioners with 4 kids and 1 dog who like matcha lattes and have watched all 9 seasons of The Office at least 3 times…
But you should have a clear idea of the type of person you want to help and create your entire offer around that.
And if you’re really not sure?
You can always start by talking about the struggles you personally overcame and that will tend to attract people like you.
The last thing ties everything together:
In order to get paid to help people, you have to set up a system to attract your ideal customer, offer the solution, and get them results.
My method is pretty simple:
- Post content that attracts your ideal audience by talking about their problems
- Offer a specific micro-solution in exchange for them joining your email list and send emails every week to help further
- Link to your full solution in your emails and when they buy, help them get the best results possible with your product
