My New Morning Routine As A Door-To-Door Salesman

My New Morning Routine As A Door-To-Door Salesman

Recently, I started knocking doors for a living which just might be the most mentally difficult job I’ve ever had.

I’ve been the guy in the mall flagging people down to pitch cell phones, I’ve done cold calls, I’ve sold cars, and this one takes the cake as the most challenging.

In those jobs I could literally wake up, drink coffee, head in, and still sell, even if I didn’t shower, comb my hair, or tuck in my shirt.

But with door knocking?

Your own mind is your worst enemy, which makes it 10 times more important to get dialed in.

Let’s get into exactly what I’m doing then I’ll talk about why I’m doing it.

Here’s My Exact Morning Routine

As a dad of 2 kids 3 and under, things have been known to get a bit crazy overnight here and there, but fortunately it’s been getting smoother these days.

The morning routine really starts at night so the earlier I can get to bed, the better the next day goes.

Assuming all goes well, here’s the routine:

  • Wake up at 5am, have black coffee, eat 3 Rice Krispies
  • Write a blog post until 6am
  • Hit the weights Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
  • Eat breakfast and work on my next YouTube video
  • Take my pup outside
  • Shower and get ready for work
  • Go over my sales goals and purpose goals

Overall it’s pretty simple, and there’s a reason I structured it the way I did.

The Whole Purpose Of My Morning Routine

Like I said above, door-to-door sales is a mental challenge more than anything, so my routine does 3 things.

The first thing is a concept I learned from Ben Settle which is to take the first hour of the day and pay yourself first.

The reason I’m waking up so early despite not clocking in until 9, 10, or even 11 depending on the season is because it’s the only time where I can truly focus.

My wife and kids are still asleep, my dog doesn’t like getting up too early, and I’m able to write which is working on my long-term vision before I work on anyone else’s.

After that, it’s time to raise my physical state through walking daily, hitting the weights 3 times a week, and eating a nutrient dense breakfast.

The last thing I do is get myself ready to work both physically and mentally.

My sales goal is a very achievable 3 customers per day, and my purpose goal is so we can pay debt down faster, get a second car, upgrade our first car, and buy a house.

Doing the early hours right is critical to keep me on track.

What Does Your Morning Routine Look Like?

Mine is simple compared to those off-the-wall “American Psycho-esqe” 17 step routines with cold showers, hot plunges, cold saunas, and coffee enemas…

However, it covers the key areas to get where I want to go in life.

Now I’m curious…

What does your morning routine look like?

Let me know in the comments and let’s talk about it.

Talk soon,

P.S. I’ll be turning this into a YouTube video in the near future and I’ll add it here as soon as it’s ready.
