Weathering The Storm

Woke up to a tornado watch this morning which is my least favorite part about living in the Midwest.

I spent 34 years of my life in New England never having to deal with these kinds of weather events, so I’m definitely not used to it even after 3 years here.

The messed up part is there’s not much you can do:

Get jackets, shoes, battery banks, chargers, other safety stuff ready…

Have multiple types of alerts set up on your phone…

And if you do get a severe warning, you just get in a safe spot away from exterior walls and windows, hope for the best, and just wait it out.

So that’s how my morning is going…

This is a lot like the early stages of starting a digital product business…

Except it’s backwards.

Here’s what I mean:

When you first start out, instead of being prepared for a storm you have to be prepared for the ghost town stage.

You’re posting every day.

You’re making offers.

Maybe you gain a few followers.

Maybe you make a few connections.

Maybe you get an email list sign up or two.

And maybe you even make a sale.

But for the most part?

Not much is happening.

This is a stage every single digital product business owner goes through…

And even if they already had an audience…

They built that audience from zero too and can relate to this stage.

The only thing you can do?

Keep showing up every day, aim to get better every day, and wait it out.

For example, when I was building my email marketing business, it took me months to get any traction…

But once things started picking up, I gained over 1,800 followers, 401 email subscribers, and collected 150 payments in my spare time.

It went from ghost town to storm of activity pretty quick.

If you ask me, that’s the only kind of storm we can all look forward to.

One of my goals is to help you get through the ghost town stage so you can enjoy the other side of it.
