If I ever listen to a podcast, it’s always a highly specific one I’ve sought out to learn a specific thing I couldn’t find anywhere else.
Otherwise, I think they tend to take up a ton of valuable time and are no better than spending 1-2 hours watching a TV series.
In fact, you might get more out of just watching Netflix in terms of entertainment value.
Anyway…
There’s something you can take from all the big podcasts out there to help you sell stuff on the internet, which is:
Do not be afraid to sell.
I remember listening to Jordan Belfort’s podcast some years back and before he got to any content whatsoever, he was spamming promotions for several sponsors right out of the gate.
Zero time wasted.
Zero fear or hesitation.
Just “time to get paid for this” immediately.
So many podcasts are like this too and they never miss a promotion.
Then you have content creators…
They’re afraid to pitch so they don’t come off too salesy.
The funny part is the digital products these creators are selling are often much more valuable than any of these sponsor deals on podcasts.
Now I’m not saying you should pitch your offer before your content, because it’s probably better to pitch at the end, but you absolutely cannot be afraid to sell if you want to make any money.
As a sales manager at my day job…
The biggest issue I see with sales is a lack of confidence.
And that lack of confidence usually comes from not fully believing what you’re selling.
And since sales is simply a transfer of belief…
Well, you can put 2 and 3 together.
If you’re having a hard time with the idea of selling things to your audience, then either you might be selling the wrong product or you just have to get used to selling by doing it more often.
