Back in September of last year, my son was born and I was taking time off from work to help my wife recover and be a new dad of 3.
Long nights, little sleep, lots of black coffee.
You know, the usual…
But by November, my wife and I were ready to get me back to work.
So I applied to a few dozen jobs, had several interviews, and not much came from it.
To be frank, I started to get worried because I didn’t have unlimited funding to be a stay at home family quite yet…
But then one random day…
An opportunity to get my old job back landed right in my lap.
And within 5 days, I was sitting at my desk starting the new and vastly improved training program.
I started as a sales consultant, re-learned the ropes, and got to selling within 4 days.
On the 5th day, made my first couple sales.
It was good to be back.
But there was a problem…
The store had no manager and the sales consultants, myself included, were picking up a lot of the slack.
3 weeks in, things got interesting…
Since I already had experience at the job from the last time I was there, I was doing well this time, and I mentioned the right words to key people…
I found myself interviewing for the store manager position.
After about a week of waiting for a decision, I ended up not getting the position and they hired someone with more experience.
But I didn’t lose out completely…
I still got promoted to assistant sales manager with a significant salary raise and a bonus plan on top of personal commission.
That was a big win for me.

Then the next phase began…
I immediately started learning my new role which was more challenging than I thought it might be, and as a result, my sales started to take a hit.
After a few weeks, I got in a groove with sales and working with the new manager.
Without getting too far into anything…
There were some signs of a problem and that problem resolved itself rather quickly.
Just like that, the manager position was open yet again…
107 days into my new job…
And after a couple interviews, I’ve accepted my position as Store Manager and everyone on the team is on board with that decision.
Now why on Earth would I share all of this on a daily email list about digital products?
Is it to just talk about myself and my accomplishments?
Is it to try and build the most personal personal brand of all time?
Or is there a lesson in there that heavily applies to digital product biz?
What you can take from my 2 fairly rapid promotions:
Part of the reason I got this position so quickly was because I did good work and people noticed.
But the real reason is because I got connected with the right people.
One of the biggest struggles with a digital product business is feeling like you have to do everything alone.
And for so many, that’s exactly the case.
This is one of the many reasons I created Info Product Lifestyle in the way I did:
Sure, I’m personally there to help every member who wants it…
But the real long term vision is to build a place where everyone is building their own thing… together.
Sharing ideas, sharing progress, asking questions, sharing wins, pushing each other to improve.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a complete beginner or have a growing business, there will be something valuable there for you.
We’re still in the early stages right now, but that’s the perfect time to get in.
Early adopters will be able to get more 1-on-1 help and at a better price point too.
And as it grows, it will only become more valuable as we build a team of builders that you can be a part of.
