Why Using AI To Write Is A Fool’s Errand

Before I get into what some may consider a “get off my lawn” style rant, I want to preface this by saying there are plenty of use cases for AI in writing, especially with idea generation.

However, I really don’t think it should be, or even can be, your primary way to write content.

This idea came from trying out a few different AI bots I had access to from various courses and programs I bought over the years, and my conclusion was clear as day in mere minutes.

I’ll explain…

The Current Problem With AI For Writing

I used to sell a simple PDF helping busy people get in shape without strict meal plans or long gym sessions, and I asked one of the AI bots to rewrite the page to sell better.

While the result wasn’t bad, something interesting happened…

The first section of the page is story based and comprised of 182 words, which isn’t long by any means, but enough to get my initial point across in a non-boring way.

Even though the AI had reference points from my Instagram, LinkedIn, website and more…

It cut down that initial story section to 55 words and used some very out-of-character phrases I don’t think I’ve ever said in my life.

And that’s the biggest issue…

Unless you’re writing purely informational content, it’s not going to help you stand out from the crowd a whole lot, if at all.

You’ll just sound like another robotic writer (which makes sense), unless you go through some heavy editing rounds which might have you end up rewriting the whole thing anyway.

My Favorite Thing About AI Right Now

Maybe I don’t know enough about AI to make it useful, but having written hundreds to thousands of articles over the years in multiple niches with zero robotic assistance…

I truly don’t think you need it.

In fact, if you’re newer to writing then it just might be a bad idea altogether.

However, I do think it can be useful for idea generation when you’re stuck…

And it’s definitely a good tool for figuring out how NOT to write.

That rewrite I got sucked the soul right out of my page.

And that’s not something I can stand behind.

What are your thoughts on this ever-increasing AI craze?

Let me know.
